Dalton Paula

Dalton Paula (1982, Brasilia, Brazilië) lives and works in Goiânia, Goiás State, in Brazil. His work explores the Black Atlantic and knowledge production in the African diaspora. In 2021 he took part in the exhibition Enciclopédia Negra at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo; in 2020 did his first international solo exhibition, Dalton Paula: a kidnapper of souls, at the Alexander and Bonin Gallery, New York.

In the year 2019 he was one of the five winners in the 7th edition of the “CNI SESI SENAI Marcantonio Vilaça Award for Visual Arts”; and also exhibited at the 36th Panorama da Arte Brasileira: Sertão, at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in São Paulo. In 2018 he participated in 4th New Museum Triennial, Songs for Sabotage, in New York.

He also took part in The Atlantic Triangle 11th Mercosul Visual Arts Biennial, in Porto Alegre/RS; of the Histórias Afro-Atlânticas exhibition, at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) and Tomie Ohtake Institute. In 2017 he participated in O Triângulo Atlântico exhibition (Goethe Institut in Lagos, Nigeria), and in 2016 he was invited for the 32nd São Paulo Biennial.
