Gideon Kiefer
1970
Gideon Kiefer (1970, Neerpelt) initially worked as an illustrator for, among others Humo, De Morgen and De Groene Amsterdammer. In 2008, after an almost fatal illness, he decided to become a visual artist. With virtuoso style, he draws people and nature in a way that’s simultaneously fantastical and life-like.
His oeuvre orchestrates an apocalyptic atmosphere, that balances the intimacy of his own memories with social issues. His recent solo exhibitions include UNC Gallery (Seoul), Martin Kudlek Gallery (Cologne), Museum Dr Guislain (Ghent), Geukens & De Vil Gallery (Antwerp) and C-Mine Cultuur Centrum (Genk). In 2005 and in 2018, he participated in Kunstenfestival Watou.
