Artist Talk: Calvin Marcus

On June 1, we are pleased to welcome American painter Calvin Marcus as our guest in celebration of his solo exhibition, Skin Paintings, on view at MDD from May 18 to August 17.

This exhibition showcases bronze and ceramic sculptures alongside oil-painted enlargements of Marcus' own skin. Drawing inspiration from the oil painting techniques of the Flemish Old Masters and artifacts from early human civilizations, Skin Paintings deepens Marcus' exploration of material, process, and the abject within the familiar. This marks the artist's first solo presentation at a European institution.

During this talk, Calvin Marcus will discuss his work in Skin Paintings and, more broadly, his artistic practice as a whole.
