Installation Francesca Hawker in Woning van Wassenhove

Across two weekends in November and December, visitors can experience Francesca Hawker’s installation at Woning Van Wassenhove. A continuation of the eel-centered research project initiated during Hawker's writing residency at the house in January '24, Hawker’s new installation will feature audio recordings made while accompanying conservation scientists from the Research Institute for Nature and Forests (INBO) during a weekly visit to monitor the ‘eel ladders’ installed at pumping stations in nearby Diksmuide. Visitors can recline in the house’s signature circular bedroom, immersed in both the soundscape and a haze of clove oil, which is commonly used in baths as a relaxant, as well as to sedate eels before handling them.

Francesca Hawker's writing residency was organised by Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Belgium, in collaboration with, MORPHO, Antwerp, with the support of Axel Vervoordt Gallery & Puilaetco.

— The installation can be visited by registration only.
— A maximum of 12 people are admitted per time slot.
— The visit takes place at the Woning Van Wassenhove.
