For 3 weekends, Koen Broucke presented a changing exhibition of his work as part of his doctoral research: Onder de roze duisternis van het slagveld, een artistieke zoektocht naar de atmosferische lagen van de geschiedenis at KU Leuven - LUCA School of Arts.

His work reflects a strong interest in texts and research. He wrote biographies of fictional artists, almost embodying their essence and producing artworks inspired by their minds. Illustrative in this regard is the project Het kabinet van dokter Hahneman (Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent, 2006), a cabinet of a fictional psychiatrist who treats artists, describes their mental conditions, and collects their works.
