Oscar Jespers
De Moderniteit in Beeld
Oscar Jespers is considered one of the most important modernist sculptors in Belgium. It was mainly during the period 1920-1930 that his work reached a creative peak. Jespers processed the modernist influences of international artists such as Brancusi and Zadkine into a personal visual language.
The exhibition at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens focuses on the work from the period 1917-1930 and shows Jespers’s sculptures in dialogue with the work of several like-minded friends and contemporaries such as Constant Permeke, Edgard Tytgat, Floris Jespers and Gust. De Smet.
