In their work, both Julie Mehretu and Jessica Rankin play with the boundaries of abstract art and the momentum that occurs when lines, colours and surfaces come to depict, once again, a reality or an experience.

While Mehretu primarily uses the metropolitan dynamic, Rankin reworks, among others, the typical compositions of geographical and astronomical maps into lively organisms. Both artists also play with different materials and various forms of composition and texture, which leads to very different outcomes.

The exhibition is conceived as a visual dialogue between the two artists, exploring themes such as the individual, relationships, cultures, globalization, painting, imaging, fragmented reality, the universe, and much more.
