George Minne
The Prodigal Son

With great enthusiasm, MDD announces the exhibition The Prodigal Son, an exceptional focus exhibition on George Minne, curated in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Marjan Sterckx.

In 1931, Jules Dhondt and Irma Dhaenens lost their only son. Around the same period, sculptor George Minne presented The Lostl Son for the first time — a moving depiction of a father and son in an intense, intimate embrace that differs from traditional biblical iconography.

The exhibition brings together works by Minne from the museum’s own collection along with important loans, including rarely shown sculptures and drawings focusing on themes such as mourning, corporeality, and emotional connection.
