My Beloved, You and I
Love in the time of Expressionism
The exhibition gathers the work of seven Belgian artists who reached the height of their artistic careers in the twenties. These artists chose a modern visual language to sever from the impressionistic style. The main theme throughout the selection is love, a cherished subject in art of that period.
The desire for love, seduction, and marital happiness, but also physical enjoyment and paid love are themes they enjoy to visualize frequently. Maybe it was a way for these artists to celebrate their regained freedom and 'joie de vivre' after the horrors of World War I.
