Paragone, 2022

water, pebbles, pumps, aluminium

For the foyer of Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, the artist Lili Dujourie (1941, Roeselare) has realised a long-term and site-specific intervention entitled Paragone. Instead of filling the two thresholds separating the entrance and the museum’s exhibition spaces, Dujourie has allowed water to circulate through them. Paragone marks the entry into the exhibition spaces with a constant flow, causing a rippling and movement. The Italian ‘paragone’ (comparison) refers to the Renaissance debate between painting and sculpture.
