A Beautiful America – Works by Afro-American artists from the Vermeire-Notebaert collection
Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens is proud to present the first comprehensive overview of the Vermeire-Notebaert collection. Through two consecutive exhibitions over the course of one year, visitors will discover one of Belgium’s most progressive and international private contemporary art collections.
The inaugural exhibition in the series, A Beautiful America, showcases recent work by leading Afro-American artists, many of whom have never been shown in a public Belgian institution. The works of Kevin Beasley, Deana Lawson, Tschabalala Self, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Shikeith, Mickalene Thomas and Kehinde Wiley confront the visitor with specific forms of expression and the particular individuality of Afro-American culture.
